We seek to make local produce available to the community by coordinating pre-ordered sales and deliveries. Using a collective CSA model, Sierra Bounty pools produce from multiple local farms to organize the ordering, purchasing and delivery of produce between participating growers and produce box members, restaurants and grocers. Our role is to ensure that growers are able to receive a fair price for their goods and that buyers are not overcharged in their efforts to support local agriculture.
Sierra Bounty Produce Collective strives to be a leader in the local food movement and in green business practices. We strive to benefit and strengthen the entire community, where customers, employees and the local and global environment are deeply valued and treated with respect.
Sierra Bounty is the first collective of its kind in the area, offering innovative and customized solutions to building a thriving local foods economy in the Eastern Sierra.
Sierra Bounty’s mission is to create a healthy, sustainable community by uniting farmers with their local market and supporting efforts to increase accessibility to fresh produce for all residents of the Eastern Sierra.
In the Summer of 2010, Sierra Bounty created a consistent market for local farmers by coordinating the sale of 50 Produce Box Shares to the general public as well as sales to commercial businesses.
In 2011 and 2012, Sierra Bounty has expanded produce box sales to 75 families in the community and continues to identify long-term ambitions for each farmer and rancher, then source and attain funding in order to help them reach these goals.
In 2013, Sierra Bounty was adopted by Stellar Brew. This was a perfect blend of like minded missions for health and happiness in the community, and the desire to support local agriculture in the Eastern Sierra. Through Mono County grant funding we were able to provide 3 boxes to IMACA to fulfill our goal of providing nutritious local vegetables and fruits to lower income families.
2014 and beyond, Sierra Bounty will continue to provide high quality produce and friendly service to our community!
Continue to introduce local produce to commercial buyers such as restaurants and grocers.
Continue to coordinate advance sales of local produce through our Produce Boxes.
Offer educational events and activities to promote sustainability and biodiversity in agriculture.
Obtain grant funding from a variety of sources to initiate farmer growth and sustainability assistance programs and to fund the exploration of different methods to expand the local growing season.
Offer support and sponsorship to existing community gardens in Inyo and Mono Counties, including the implementation and enhancement of education outreach programs.
Extend access to Produce Box shares to include low-income families and those residing in the various small communities outside of Mammoth Lakes, CA.
About the Founder:
Sara Pfeifer is the founder of Sierra Bounty Produce Collective. Sierra Bounty was conceived in October 2009, at the tail end of the farmers’ market season in Mammoth Lakes, California. Sara came to the realization that the demand for and interest in local foods vastly surpassed the availability of items. After some investigation, she committed herself to the idea of helping our local food system by acting as an intermediary for local growers and various untapped markets. This has proved beneficial for the community by reducing dependence on imported, large-scale food production.
In 2013 Sara left to pursue other passions. Stellar Brew adopted the produce collective and plans to carry through with the initial goals of Sierra Bounty. We are grateful for her initial efforts and wish her all the best!
